2006
is going to be a remarkable year for “Red” as he approaches his 40th
year as a sheet metal mechanic, at York Sheet Metal, Inc and the
40th birthday of his Semi-Hustler (this particular car unfortunately
hasn't been his for 40 years).
Red began racing in 1964 when he
hit the track with a 1962 Chevy Impala. He then changed cars to a
1966 Chevy 427 Belair 4- speed. This '66 was the original
Semi-Hustler. Red ran the Semi-Hustler mainly at the York US 30
strip, in York, PA. In the early days, he also ran a '65 Hemi-Super
Stock. As with many MANDRA members, Red took a break from the strip
when he and his wife; Sid, started their family.
Recently, Red could no longer keep
his passion for the drags dormant. He purchased a replica of his
'66 Belair 427 in 2004. With a few little modifications, including
a Power Glide transmission, the newest Semi-Hustler was ready for
the strip.
Red raced causally, as time and
money permitted. He joined MANDRA in 2005 and is ready for the
points racing of 2006. In addition to this car he is working on
rebuilding a 4 speed '66 Belair. This car won't be ready for action
any time soon!
Crew: (Red could never light the
passion for drag racing in his daughters, but he has been able to
help his sons-in-law appreciate the “need for speed”.)
We try to feature a different MANDRA members with
their teammates and car. If you are a member and would like to
showcase your car and teammates send us a brief write up on your car.
